Last Day of August - Last Day of Birthday Gifts!

Happy Tuesday, Shopaholics! Didn't I tell you that I celebrated my birthday the entire month of August? :-) After today, the month is changing and my mind will slowly begin to turn to late summer (known as Fall everywhere else) and football season.

Let me thank my lovely friend Kristina over at Lotus and Lilly for a thoughtful and generous birthday gift. Kristina's work is absolutely gorgeous. I was thrilled and surprised when she sent me a clutch and matching headband for my birthday! They are both made from vintage Lilly Pulitzer fabric, named Familia de Gato. The clutch is available to view on the website HERE. Thanks again Kristina, I love them both. Shopaholic tip: Be sure to join the Lotus and Lilly Facebook page, for special deals and promotions. :-)

Another surprise came to me from The Preppy Ladybug. Shannon sent me a set of the Pink Coral Notecards, which I had mentioned here on Shopaholic as one of my favorite items from her store. I've already used several of these, and look forward to ordering more from The Preppy Ladybug. You can view the notecards on her Etsy site HERE. Thank you Shannon! :-)

My longtime friend and fellow Lilly lovah, Caitlin, surprised me with this set of note cards. Caitlin took a card making class, and was so sweet to think of me. She knows I love to mail notes, cards, etc and made a few to send my way. I can't decide which design is my favorite? Thank you, Caitlin! ♥ ya, girl! :-)

That's it! Birthday celebrations are officially over.

Bring it on, September. I'm 40 now, and I'm ready! :-)

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Party Photos!

Happy Sunday, Shopaholics! It's been raining here for days, I'm so tired of it. According to the experts, it won't stop until at least Wednesday! This is making me very grumpy...

Thought I would share some photos from the birthday party with you! These were taken last Saturday night. We had a great time, and my sister and DH did such a great job of putting the party together in record time.

Birthday cake, by "Pollman's Bakery" in Mobile. Disclaimer: DH knows I'm a total snob about my b'day cake, and it absolutely must have a beach scene. This is what the bakery came up with "sunset on the beach"...

These strawberries were so yummy! My sister whipped up a delish cream cheese dip to accompany...and the decorations were made by the lovely Shannon at "The Preppy Ladybug" (Etsy link HERE).

How about a Strawberry Cheese Ring? These are staples at all our parties. Seriously, I think my friend Mary showed up just because she knew we'd have one. HAHA

Compare me to Britney Spears if you'd like, but I think every birthday party can use a little Chick Fil A...

Fun table, huh? We ended up with a lot more on it, party planning was difficult when a few guests showed up almost 3 hours early! No names...Anyway, Please ignore our 80's decor...it's the beach and we should probably buy a whole bunch of new furniture...DH said I have to stop shopping first. As if. :-)

Yours truly!

My hair stylist Phillip, his partner Brian, Moi and baby sister Amy. So glad the boys came to visit! And they brought me the first two seasons of "True Blood". Great friends, great times!

Me and DH - we had so much fun!

Without them, I wouldn't even be here. With Dad, Mom and Amy.

BFF Priscilla (and her DH) were also in attendance

Enough photos, even I'm tired of looking at them now. :-) But I thought you might enjoy! To everyone else that was here, I'm so sorry there are no photographs. At some point, DH took control of the camera and let's just say this....he feel down on the job!

Have a wonderful Sunday and enjoy the rest of your weekend. Can you send wishes for sunshine my way, please?

Advice for the Single Girl BFF

TGIF, everyone! Hope you are doing wonderful and planning a relaxing weekend filled with all your favorite things!

Today I ask all you single (and attached, committed, or married!) ladies for advice. One of my BFF's is single and looking. She doesn't date much, as she lives in a small town here in the Deep South - and good men are hard to come by.

To give you an idea what she's dealing with - the attorneys in her town have been known to wear overalls in public. Do you get the picture yet??? :-)

Moving on with the story...BFF has found a really nice man and they are dating now, and have been for several weeks. This man doesn't live in her town, he lives an hour or so away. Most of their dating has consisted of meeting at "neutral" locations like restaurants, movies, etc. approx. halfway, but she always makes sure he travels further than she does. (I told her I thought this was critical at this particular stage of the relationship).

She's in her early 30's......he's in his late 30's......her "main" question (and she has lots of others, but let's focus on one for now) is How to tell if he's really into her? Apparently he doesn't call, text, etc like most boyfriends have - and she's taking this as a sign that he's either:

1) reserved
2) shy
3) cautious
4) secretly involved with someone else at the same time (remember he lives an hour away!)
5) Who knows? What else could it be?

Put it like this, after three dates, he hadn't even tried to kiss her. Yeah, she's freaking out. Blowing my phone up with texts and late night conversations trying to figure out this man. Even my DH is trying to help us decipher the situation, which is slightly hilarious. :-)

What do you think? If he really is "into her" - how does she know? And then, how do you keep it this way? What are your "do and don't" moves, especially this early in a new relationship?

Hello my friends, I'm an old lady. I'm 40 years old and I haven't dated in 17-18 years...clearly she needs more advanced advice here. Help a Shopaholic's BFF, please! Let us know your thoughts!

Introducing -- Shopaholic's Preppy Closet on Facebook

Happy Thursday! Today I'm off shopping with my sister (and hopefully my Mother!), lunching and just generally playing all day because we can! :-)

Speaking of shopping...I wanted to tell you all about my new Facebook page, Shopaholic's Preppy Closet (link HERE). You know how some bloggers have "blog sales" to clean out their closets? Still others sell on Ebay, or on the Re-Lilly group on Facebook? Well I decided it was time to create one central place for my unused closet contents. Additionally, I am posting items for a few family members and friends.

You can expect to see all your favorite brands - Lilly Pulitzer, DVF, Trina Turk, Nanette Lepore, Catherine Malandrino, Juicy Couture and many more! Paypal is the accepted form of payment, and all items are shipped promptly. I'd be honored if you would come "like" the fan page HERE. Who knows? I might have that special piece posted that you "need". There's a wide range of sizes available too, since many of my friends are different sizes.

Have a great Thursday! Let me know what you think about Shopaholic's Preppy Closet, I can't wait to hear your thoughts!

Happy Tuesday, Shopaholics! Sorry I've been so far behind here. It seems life has been crazy since my friend Lisa's memorial service, my 40th birthday, Gabe having his accident, etc.

I'm happy to report that Gabe came home from the hospital on Monday afternoon. A broken shoulder is his only remaining injury, and while the poor thing is miserable from the pain, he is going to be ok. We're so thankful the brain bleed stopped on it's own, and they didn't have to "go in". Whew! Thanks so much for all your comments here and on my Facebook page. Gabe's father (my younger cousin) read all of your posts, and he said he was just in tears with all the kindness and concern for his son. Apparently the well wishes and prayers worked! You guys are the best. :-)

Congratulations to all our giveaway winners! Below I have an updated list. If you've won a giveaway, please be sure to contact me (lori.driver@hotmail.com) so we can get the ball rolling on your prize! You have 72 hours to claim - or I'll have to draw another winner!

Day One - Caroline Grace Jewelry - "Laurie"
Day Two - mcc designs - "AMStarkey"
Day Three - Lotus and Lilly - "Equinegirls"
Day Four - Preppy Princess - "DCGopGirl"
Day Five - Lynn Whelan Designs - "Southern Living: Preppy Style"
Day Six - Preppy Ladybug - "Sweet Tea and Biscuits"
Day Seven - At The Blue Barn - "Fried Pink Tomato"

Like I said, with everything else going on, I've fallen a wee bit behind here. But now, I am working on catching up!

Hope you have a wonderful Tuesday! Are you shopping the Lilly Pulitzer sale online today? I can smell the smoke from a few folks credit cards already......(not mine, they were taken away years ago, I have to pay with "real" money now). *it's not as much fun either-ha*

Little Gabe Needs Your Thoughts & Prayers

Hi There, my Shopaholic friends. It's going to be a long day here. I had planned a different post for today, but...

My cousin's son had an accident Saturday evening. He fell off a balcony, about 27 stairs, directly onto the ground below. He is only 3 years old, and his name is Gabe.

What we know about his injuries so far - he has a broken shoulder, and unfortunately is suffering internal bleeding on his lungs and his brain. Naturally he's in the hospital and is being watched very carefully. If the bleeding on the brain isn't better in a few hours, they will have to "go in". We're not sure yet exactly what this means, but it certainly isn't good.

My cousin and his family lived in Oregon for the past five years; they just moved back to Alabama less than 10 days ago. My aunt just met her youngest grandson for the first time when they arrived. Gabe is such a beautiful little boy, and a sweetheart.

If you're the praying type, please say a little prayer for him. If not, send him a positive thought. I really, really appreciate it; and I know his parents will too.

More later today, going to try to get a little rest now. I'm worried sick. :-(

Lifeguard Press/Lilly Pulitzer - Day Fourteen of Shopaholic Birthday Giveaway Days!

Happy Saturday, my Shopaholic friends! What are you doing this weekend? Today I plan to get in some beach time, here's hoping the weather is nice enough! The DH is off work and we plan to make a day of it. :-)

Welcome to Day Fourteen of Shopaholic Birthday Giveaway Days! I'm hosting these in honor of my 40th birthday. It was on August 12...and we all know that Leos celebrate not just one day....but many days! I've been known to call it my "birthday week" or even "birthday month".  Hopefully you're enjoying the birthday celebration as much as I am! This has been a fun way to stop thinking about getting older, and profile some of my favorite designers, websites, stores and brands!

Thanks so much to my wonderful friends at Lifeguard Press for sponsoring our 14th giveaway! I have a wonderful partnership with Lifeguard Press. Occasionally they will send items for me to review on the blog, which I hope is helpful to you the reader. Additionally, they always offer FREE Shipping to Shopaholic In Alabama readers with code "shopbama".

Lifeguard Press has partnerships with some of the best brands - Lilly Pulitzer, Jonathan Adler and Susan Branch licensed stationery and gifts - to name a few. You can visit the website HERE.

Recently, I received the brand spanking new Lilly Pulitzer 2010-2011 Large Agenda to review. I was thrilled to receive the coveted print "Checking In". These full size agendas measure approximately 6 3/4" x 8 7/8". The calendar starts with August 2010 and runs through December 2011. I love this because so many use these as "academic agendas" and they're perfect for the college student or Mom with children in school. The new agendas also feature blank note pages, coordinating sticker sheets (so cute for noting special days on your agenda!), pocket folders, "Month at a Glance" and "Day by Day" features, as well as an elastic band closure. I absolutely LOVE mine - I couldn't wait to start using it! If you've considered purchasing a new agenda, or need a gift item, this is the best $24.95 you will spend!

My new agenda, in the print "Checking In" (on website HERE).

The agenda also comes in the print "White Zin" (on website HERE).

And "Don't Be Koi", which I think is perfect for Fall: (on website HERE).

For today's giveaway, Lifeguard Press is offering one lucky Shopaholic In Alabama reader a large Lilly Pulitzer Agenda, in the print of their choice! That's right - if you win - you can select the print you'd like to have! One lucky Shopaholic reader is going to be very, very happy!

Another one of my favorite items from the new Lilly Pulitzer collection are the Market Bags. You can be stylish at the market, and not use those super wasteful plastic bags! We all know Lilly loves Green, and would be proud of us for doing our part to protect the environment! :-)

The Market bags are available in two new prints, first we have "How About Them Apples" (on website HERE).

Next up, "Just Add A Lemon" (on website HERE).

Which print is your favorite? If you're like me, you could order one of everything on the website! :-)

If so, I have some great news for you! When placing your order on the Lifeguard Press website, be sure to enter the coupon code "shopbama" at checkout and your order will qualify for FREE shipping. There is no minimum order required to qualify for this deal. Nice, huh!?!?
