Southern Tide Summer Fun Giveaway

TGIF! Are you getting ready for a fun weekend, or have you already started your 4th of July holiday week? Of course summer on the Gulf Coast means fun in the sun - and let's face it - the folks at Southern Tide know all about having fun in the sun. Since the brand's inception in 2006, it has become wildly popular. We love it here at the beach because it embodies the lifestyle we are lucky enough to live. (Work, beach, boat, fish, repeat).

Speaking of the upcoming 4th of July holiday, what essentials are in your beach bag? My perfect beach bag would include all the above items - which would guarantee a fabulous beach day. What's in the bag, you ask?

1. Ray Ban Wayfarers - I'll be honest, I grew up wearing these glasses and I'm thrilled they are back and more fabulous than ever!
2. Dior Addict Lip Glow - I love all of Dior's products, especially the Addict fragrance. Recently, I tried the Lip Glow and am now addicted (just as they promised)!
3. Southern Tide Bottle Sox - with temperatures expected to reach high 90's/low 100's over the next week, this one is a must to keep your favorite beverage cold. Southern Tide says it's "like a cozy sweater for your bottled beverage", is that genius or what?
4. Southern Tide Beach Towel - this is one beach towel your husband or boyfriend will want to "borrow" (be careful, he may not return it! My solution - buy in several colors, ha!)  For the hubby, I'd select the Tidewater or Blue - and for me, the Yellow or Coral.
5. Amazon Kindle - at this point, I'm pretty sure I'm one of the few remaining people without a Kindle. I'd love to have one for beach days - or to read while at work and taking a lunch break. Maybe then I could jump on the Fifty Shades of Grey bandwagon...I'd really like to read the books but I hate for people at work to see me with a copy of the book (silly, I know!). I could read it covertly with the Kindle.
6. Neon Straw Bag from Charlotte Russe - Is it neon - or is it neutral? Doesn't matter - you have both colors with this bag! Right on trend and perfect for summer, this one is just fun. (and roomy!)
7. Pink Skipjack Hat - let's face it: no one looks attractive with a sunburned face. Skin cancer isn't cool. We need to protect our faces (and our highlights!) and the pink version of this hat will keep you covered and help keep you cool. Also a great hat for my 4 mile treks...
8. Neutrogena Sunscreen - see the above point! I am in love with the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock. It has Helioplex, and I use the SPF 70 version any time I'm outside - beach, boat, running, etc. I'm proud to say: my face hasn't been sunburned at all this year. Quite an accomplishment for me, as my nose is normally fried.
9. Southern Tide Sunglass Straps - I love to use sunglass straps, mainly because I don't want anything happening to my Costas. Whether you're beachside or poolside, these are a good idea to keep those sunglasses firmly attached. Naturally, my first choice of color would be....pink!

I am thrilled to announce that my friends at Southern Tide are generously offering a giveaway, exclusively for Shopaholic In Alabama readers! One lucky reader will win a Southern Tide Beach Towel (just like the one pictured above, in the winner's choice of available colors). How can you enter the giveaway? Let me count the ways:

1. Comment on this post with your favorite nautical or summer item from Southern Tide (website HERE). This method will earn you one entry in the giveaway (please note this is mandatory).

2. You must be a follower of Shopaholic In Alabama via Google Friend Connect to enter. Please "officially" follow this blog and comment as such - or let me know that you're already a follower via comment. This gives you one entry in the giveaway.

3. "Like" the Southern Tide Facebook page (HERE) for an additional one entry.

4. "Like" the Shopaholic In Alabama Facebook page (HERE) for an additional one entry.

5. Tweet this giveaway (be sure to copy me on the tweet @shopaholicinal, all tweets will be verified) for one entry.

That's a total of (5) possible entries, don't forget the first two methods are mandatory to qualify for the giveaway. Please leave a separate comment for each entry. The giveaway period ends on Friday, July 6 at midnight central time. After a random drawing, the lucky winner will be announced here and on my Facebook page on Saturday, July 7. Good luck to everyone!

I can't wait to hear what you are loving from Southern Tide this summer! A special thanks to my friends at Southern Tide for offering such a generous giveaway.

Have a Fantastic Friday!

FTC Disclaimer: While I was not compensated for this post, I will be receiving a Southern Tide gift card in exchange for hosting and managing this giveaway. Which my husband has already claimed, he said he "needs" a new Skipjack Polo. :-)

Coral Branch Jewelry For Summer

During the peak of spring and summer, I find myself wearing a ton of fashion jewelry. Some of my favorite brands include Kenneth Jay Lane, Amrita Singh, Meg Carter Designs and Lilly Pulitzer.

If you are a fan of these brands, you've probably noticed the recent trend of coral branch shaped jewelry and coral colored palettes. Not just for the beach girl, these pieces are also perfect statement items and will really get people talking! I have a particular fondness for the items shaped like coral branches...

Just yesterday, I wore the Amrita Singh Coral Bib Necklace (pictured above) to work with a solid black top and a white linen skirt. Since I work in a fairly conservative environment (it's a financial institution, after all!) I try to keep my wardrobe moderately tame and have fun with accessories and shoes during the week. At work, I had at least a half dozen people comment on my necklace. They were all wondering - where did you get that? Who is the designer? After work, I popped into one of my favorite boutiques here at the beach and the owner had a fit over my necklace. (This necklace is currently available on Amrita Singh's website HERE - I purchased mine during a sale on Gilt Groupe several months ago).

The white cuff bracelet pictured above is by Kenneth Jay Lane, and is part of a collection produced for QVC. This cuff was originally available in white, red and black - but it appears that white is the only option available on the QVC website. My sister and I purchased these bracelets two years ago (the white version) and it's a staple in my summer jewelry wardrobe. If you like big statement jewelry, and have an average sized wrist and arm, you will probably love this as well. It looks wonderful on - especially when offset with a healthy summer tan! (you can view this on QVC's website HERE - don't forget to link through Ebates to earn 2.5% Cash Back on your purchases - join Ebates free HERE).

My sweet nephews gave me the white version of the Lilly Pulitzer Long Necklace in Sea Coral. I love this necklace and wear it often. It's perfect when paired with a fitted top or tee and shorts. Originally priced at only $48, this necklace is no longer available online but some Lilly stores might have it hanging around. It also came in a Pink Tomato color, which I never did purchase - now I wish I had! Don't you hate it when that happens!??!

From the fabulous Meg Carter Designs - these sea candy earrings are some of my absolute favorites.  They are on heavy rotation around these parts during the spring and summer months. As Meg Carter says: "delicious"! These are still available on the Meg Carter Designs website HERE. (And happens to perfectly match my Ciara tunic in Turquoise Coral Siesta from Lilly Pulitzer - I get so many compliments on this combination!).

Are you also loving coral branch jewelry this season? What are some of your favorite brands or pieces? Leave me a comment and let me know - you guys are awfully quiet out there lately!

Have a Terrific Tuesday!

Fornash Favorites on Hautelook

TGIF! After starting a new job this week and being stuck in a classroom for training, I'm ready to get outside and enjoy a beautiful Gulf coast weekend! What about you - any big plans for this weekend?

Before you get the weekend started - you might want to hop over to Hautelook and check out the Fornash boutique. They have so many wonderful finds - including the Octopus Pendant Necklace pictured above. It normally retails for $46, and is priced at only $23 on Hautelook. I have this necklace and wore it to work yesterday - everyone loved it and I got so many compliments!
The Crystal Starfish earrings pictured above are another favorite of mine. These retail for $46 and are also only $23 on Hautelook. I don't have them yet, but today might be the day I order a pair! I love those pink and green stones, and am sure they'll match a large portion of my wardrobe.
I have a recent obsession with the Fornash leather bracelets, and they are perfect for layering. I love this Milan Chain Leather style, and don't have any Fornash in green leather (yet!). Perhaps I should pick up this one as well? It's only $13 on Hautelook, and retails for $26. This bracelet comes in many other colors that are featured on Hautelook - the turquoise and orange colors are also calling my name!

If you're not a member of Hautelook, you can join free with the link HERE. Are you also a big fan of Fornash jewelry? Which pieces are your favorites?

Have a Fabulous Friday!

Happy 1st Day Of Summer

Happy Summer! Even though our temperatures have been summer-ish for quite some time here on the Gulf Coast, today marks the official 1st Day of Summer!

This day is also known as National Wear Your Lilly Day.

So the question is this: are you wearing Lilly today? Many of our favorite Lilly Pulitzer stores are offering Gifts with purchase as a celebration of the day. Are you shopping today?

For the record, I am wearing Lilly today - but I'm not shopping! Can you believe it? :-)

Tell me - what Lilly are you wearing? I'm kicking it old school style in my Newbury tunic in Speckle & Hyde...

Latisse: It Works, Here Is Proof!

It's time for a true confession. Please don't think I'm too vain, but I tried Latisse. And ladies and gentlemen, guess what?!!? It works. It REALLY works.

As they say: the proof is in the pictures. The above picture was taken after two months of using Latisse. (I'm on the right, my sister is on the left).

The picture below was taken three months after my I ran out of my Latisse supply.
Obviously, I'm on the right side again. With my short and stubby eyelashes. :-(

Clearly, I need to reinvest in my Latisse. All this maintenance is really getting expensive, and the DH thinks I'm totally ridiculous to want long eyelashes.

What do you think? Have you ever tried Latisse, or any of the other lash enhancing products? What were your results?

Let me hear from you!

My Father, My Hero

Tuscaloosa, AL, Alabama vs. Tennessee, 10/22/11

Happy Father's Day! Today I hope you are enjoying a day of fun and festivities with those who are important to you! Whether it's your Father, your husband, your grandfather, uncle or adopted family - today is the day to pamper your favorite people.

As you all know, family is very important to me. Me and the hubby spend a lot of time with my parents, and we have a very close relationship. When something good happens, I call my parents. When something bad happens, I call my parents. I truly value every moment I spend with them, and have always been close with my father.

My father is the one who always tells me like it is. His advice is quite famous around these parts. Some of my favorite advice and general sayings over the years:

"Lori, you need to dump that guy. He's a loser, and he can't even afford your hair products". (regarding an old boyfriend - needless to say, my Father was correct. I'm pretty sure that particular dude can't even afford his own dental health plan now, bahahaha!)

"Here's what you need to do. Take today to be upset. Allow yourself to feel bad, but do it today only. Get your butt up tomorrow morning, and start working on another plan. Put that job, that place, and those people to your back".  (regarding an old job - I was miserable and it wasn't getting better. He knew exactly what I should do).

Alcatraz, San Francisco, June 1986. Thankfully they let us out!

"In God We Trust, but all others pay cash". (self explanatory, great life advice).
"You need to sue the city" to one of my BFF's at Talladega. "Why?", my BFF asked my Father. "Because, they built the sidewalk too close to your a**". (Giving her grief about being short, all in good fun, she's a honorary member of the family).
Boating on Dauphin Island, May 2012

Please join me in wishing my sweet Father a very "Happy Father's Day" - and enjoy your day with those special to you. Also keep in mind that this is a lonely day for many people - those who have suffered the loss of their Fathers, who were never close with their Fathers or maybe never knew their Father. Make an effort to reach out to them today. If that is your situation, please accept a virtual ((HUG)) from our family!

Happy Sunday!

National Flip Flop Day

TGIF! Wow, what an incredibly long week it has been here. I'm looking forward to a weekend spent in the sun - doing what we planned last weekend but couldn't do because of all the rain!

Are you wearing your flip flops today, in honor of National Flip Flop Day? Originally created by Tropical Smoothie Cafe, on National Flip Flop Day you can wear your flips to a Tropical Smoothie location (certain hours only) and receive a free Jetty Punch smoothie. Sadly, I won't be near a TS Cafe today to get a free smoothie, but I still love my flips and try to integrate some of the dressier ones into my Friday work wardrobe!

Some of my favorite flip flops include:

Bahamas Jelly by Jack Rogers - I only have one pair of these but am coveting more! Maybe soon...

Havaianas Slim - I would conservatively estimate I have at least 15 pairs of Havaianas, in different colors and styles.  You can't have too many of these!

I also love to wear crystallized and blinged flip flops, but my friends that is a whole 'nother post! ha!

Have a Fantastic Friday - hope you are sporting your favorite flip flops today!

The Best Eyeliner On The Planet

...In my humble opinion, of course!

For years, I've refused to use eyeliner pencils and have instead opted for liquid eyeliner. My favorite liquid liner has long been Artliner by Lancome. The biggest reason I like the liquid liner? Because I didn't feel like it was pulling my eyes as it was being applied. I hate tugging on my eyes and fooling with a pencil.

However, I have now changed my mind about eye pencils. And it's all because I tried the one above - this one is called Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner by NARS. This eye pencil has a built-in sharpener and a retractable applicator, so you don't even have to carry a sharpener around with you.

NARS always cracks me up with the names of their colors (like the blush "Orgasm" or my favorite lipstick "Sexual Healing", the folks who name the colors have a sense of humor!). My new favorite eye pencil is named after some of the most famous and iconic streets in the world - think Abbey Road, Bourbon Street, Madison Avenue, etc.

The first one I purchased was Abbey Road, which is a beautiful turquoise color. After I purchased it, I literally wore the same eyeliner for months - every single day! Then I decided I needed a little change (change can be good), so I ordered Via Appia - which is a copper brown. Now I'm not sure which one is my favorite, I love them both.
If you're looking for a new eye pencil and like a long wearing, easy to apply pencil - this might be the one for you. I've found the eyeliner still looks great, even after 12-14 hours. No fading, as the colors are intense. They're priced at $23, which is a tad high for an eyeliner but honestly they seem to last a long time. (I've had Abbey Road for at least 3 months now).

You can order from Sephora (my preferred method because I like to earn my Ebates cash back), or purchase from any store that carries NARS.

What is your favorite eyeliner? Do you like to wear bright colors, or opt for something more neutral?

The Return of Dallas

So, my age (41) is really not a big secret around these parts, right? Pardon me while I actually show my age...

When I was young, Dallas was part of my family's Friday night ritual.  "The Dukes of Hazzard" and "Dallas" were the shows to watch on Friday night; Saturday night was "The Love Boat" and "Fantasy Island". (Honestly - Dallas debuted in 1978, there weren't very many channels of television then anyway. And by the way, you had to get up off your tail to change the station, there were no remote controls. haha) My Father jokingly recalls a time when we were going out of town on a family vacation, but my Mother refused to leave the house until "Dallas" was over because it was the famous "Who Shot Jr?" episode. (We didn't have DVR's or DVD's back then either). If you missed an episode, you just missed it. You couldn't watch it online because frankly, Al Gore had not yet invented the internet either...haha! (Please don't hate on me, the Al Gore part is a joke, but seriously there was no internet then!)

When the original series ended in 1991, the story was old and a little tired. Brothers J.R. and Bobby Ewing had fought more times than we could count, their wives Sue Ellen and Pam had suffered more strife than one could possibly imagine, and the whole affair was just dated. The new "Dallas" will feature the original characters of J.R. Ewing, Bobby Ewing, and Sue Ellen Ewing (portrayed by original cast members Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray). There are new characters and the story line will center around J.R. and Bobby's sons, who will seemingly continue their father's bitter rivalry for power and control over Southfork, the family ranch.

Expect to see Josh Henderson, Jesse Metcalf, Jordanna Brewster and Julie Gonzalo as the brothers and their love interests. Let the new nighttime soap opera begin! I'm very excited to see how the show will look, how the old characters have grown, and what their offspring are up to. It's going to be a fun ride!

Who else is looking forward to the debut of "Dallas" tonight on TNT at 8pm central? Can you believe I will be working when the show debuts??? Thank goodness that since 1978 - someone invented the internet, DVR and Hulu and the remote control!  I'll be able to catch it when I get home!

Will you be watching?

Awesome Shrimp Salad

Here's what happens when it rains allllll weekend (anywhere from 12" - 21" from Mobile, Gulf Shores to Pensacola). We stay inside and we cook, then we eat! We watch old movies and we eat some more.

I don't even want to confess how many HOURS I spent on Pinterest this weekend (those who already follow me probably know, I was a pinning fool for the past few days). Pinterest is dangerous to me, because I find so many new recipes I want to try. Friday night, I found the above recipe for "Dauphin Island Shrimp Salad" - and hey, I was at Dauphin Island already...so I sent the DH and my Father to the seafood market on Saturday morning and viola - Shrimp Salad!

Giving credit where it's due: if you enjoy southern cooking, especially with seafood - you simply must check out "Drick's Rambling Cafe". His blog is chock full of so many marvelous recipes! The author is from the Gulf Coast, and boy can you tell! I'm sure I'll be trying another recipe this weekend!

Variation: while I followed Drick's shrimp salad recipe, I added a few tablespoons of no-sugar-added sweet pickle relish.

What do you think? Have you ever made a shrimp pasta salad? Have a great Monday!

Salt Water Saturday: Wishing For Sunshine!

Source: bing.com via Lori on Pinterest

You all might remember - I have been looking forward to my three day weekend that started on Friday! And wouldn't you know it? As I write this post, it is pouring outside! We were planning to go boating today, and possibly do a little fishing as well, but so far it's not looking too good!

Here's hoping the sun will peek out - if only just for a few hours! In the meantime, enjoy some images of our fabulous Alabama beaches. Hopefully I'll have "real" photos of my own to share again soon!

Enjoy your Saturday!

Can Someone Please Hide My Wallet?

And while you're at it, can you erase any card numbers stored in my memory?

Heaven help me. Lilly Pulitzer will be a featured boutique on Rue La La today, starting at 10AM Central, 8AM Pacific. I have to admit, I've been a little disappointed in the past few Lilly Pulitzer events on Rue La La. However, you just never know what Rue La La has in store. My advice? Be there early, and use the "Quick Buy" feature if you "need" something. Chances are, if you want it, someone else does too! (your free invite to Rue La La is HERE, if you're not already a member). Side note: I love that RLL accepts Paypal!

As if this wasn't enough, the Trina Turk for Banana Republic collection is now online. I am dying over sooo many pieces in this collection, and trying to be reasonable about my purchases at the same time. Isn't that an oxymoron? HA! My plan is to limit purchases to items I can wear to work. (stop laughing now, please). I've narrowed my immediate "needs" to the Pisces Top in Cool:
And the Swirl Cowl-Neck Knit Dress:
And the Turquoise Top (does this style remind you of something else? like the Elsa top by Lilly Pulitzer?):
The shorts pictured above with the turquoise top, they're already on order from Gilt Groupe last week. Yep, I need help! And no, I can't wear the shorts to work...but hey, a girl has to have SOME fun, right?!?!

If you order from Banana Republic online today, don't forget to link through Ebates, where you get paid to shop online (free invite HERE). Right now the Ebates Cash Back rate for Banana Republic is 2%, which isn't much but at least it's a little something! :-)

Wait - did someone hide my wallet?!!?!?
