Salt Water Saturday: Alabama vs. LSU

Image
Happy Weekend! Today we have been relaxing and preparing for tonight's big showdown in Baton Rouge...Alabama vs. LSU. Alabama heads into Baton Rouge with an unbeaten record and BCS Title hopes. LSU heads into the game with one loss this season and hopes of ruining our fun.  Of course, you know where my heart is! DH and I will be watching from home here at the beach. I suspect the game will be very close, but I hope it's not! :-)  Are you watching any football today? Who are you pulling for this season? p.s. The above graphic is from the Emerald Coast Crimson Tide Fans page on Facebook . If you're a Bama fan, you simply must go like his page HERE . The owner is a graphic designer and creates the coolest images every week. Tell him I sent you!

Salt Water Saturday: Gameday Treats in Tuscaloosa

Image
Last Saturday, we attended Alabama's first home game of the season. Going to Tuscaloosa for the games is always a blast, but we tend to do the same things and go to the same places almost every week we're in town. Last week, we made an effort to hit downtown Tuscaloosa before the game - and we were not disappointed!  If you are in Tuscaloosa at any point during the season, and you need something to wear, be sure to visit The Shirt Shop. They are on Greensboro Avenue, and carry a wide variety of preppy brands you will love. Looking for Vineyard Vines gear with the Alabama logo? They have it here! Elizabeth McKay, Alice & Trixie and Joie are other ladies staples in this Tuscaloosa Tradition. The Shirt Shop also has a wide variety of men's merchandise, including the Vineyard Vines Alabama gear.  I was thrilled to find this elephant scarf. It is manufactured exclusively for The Shirt Shop, so of course I had to buy one. I needed more game day wardrobe options becaus...

Salt Water Saturday: Bringing The Party To Big D

Image
As you all know from yesterday's post, we are now in Dallas and anxiously awaiting the Michigan vs. Alabama match-up tomorrow night at Cowboys Stadium. There are tons of people here, both Bama and Michigan fans.  Here are some of our photos from yesterday. After arriving in Dallas, we spent several hours at the stadium and in the pro shop mixing with other people in town for the game. We had a blast and here's the proof! (and proof of my purchases - but they're not all for me, at least one of those hats is for the DH) We also enjoyed a wonderful dinner out and we might have a few extra bags with us...ha! More on that dinner later! :-)  Are you also enjoying college football this weekend? Which games are you planning to watch?

Salt Water Saturday: Operation Sun, Sleep and Sell

Image
Welcome to the weekend! :-)  Here are my plans for the weekend - in no particular order: Sleep - no doubt about it, I'm sleep deprived. On Monday, I went back to a late shift at work and have been getting up very early, and going to bed very late. I plan to sleep this weekend until I've slept all I want.  Sun - I can't wait to get on the beach tomorrow and relax with a cocktail and a good book. Here's hoping there is no rain! Our weather pattern as of late has been rain and thunderstorms every day. I need a big dose of Vitamin D that didn't come from a pill.  Sell - my massive closet clean out continues! For the past few weeks, I have been trying to get rid of a ton of stuff that I'm not wearing, not using and do not need. My closet contents can be found over at Shopaholic's Preppy Closet on Facebook HERE . As you can imagine, this is a work in progress.  What will you be doing this weekend? I recommend rest and relaxation! Enjoy your day!

Salt Water Saturday: Tragedy in Colorado

Image
In my lifetime, there have been many tragedies in American history - on American soil. Some were acts of random violence, some were pure accidents, and others were acts of terrorism. With all of these events, I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard the news.  From the shootings in Columbine, to the bombing in Oklahoma City, the Space Shuttle Columbia blowing up over Texas on a Saturday morning, to the 9-11 disaster in NY, DC and a field in PA...none of these directly happened to me, but all hurt my heart as if they did.  Today we are all hurting for the people of the Aurora and Denver metro area. Today we all hurt as Americans. We wonder - what drives someone to be so evil? How could a person - a fellow American citizen, at that - want to harm others in such a horrible manner? The answers are never clear. Sure - it's easy to say the person who allegedly committed this horrible act of violence was crazy. But - was he crazy? Or was he motivated by...

Salt Water Saturday: Skinnygirl Pina Colada

Image
It's well documented that I love my Skinnygirl Margaritas and White Cranberry Cosmos (originally blogged HERE and HERE ).  Last weekend, I was thrilled to find the new Skinnygirl Pina Colada at the Publix store near my office. For some unknown reason, these products tend to arrive in Florida faster than Alabama. It must have something to do with distribution? At any rate, Publix had two bottles left on the shelf --- and I bought them both!  We enjoyed them over the weekend while at my parent's island home, and I must say I love the new Pina Colada flavor. My DH and Father both said they were "watered down" - but then again, they weren't frozen and heavy pina coladas that taste like ice cream. HA! They are light and refreshing, definitely best served super cold and with a slice of pineapple.  I also noticed that Skinnygirl has added flavored vodkas to their offerings. Tangerine, Island Coconut, Cucumber and Bare Naked are the available flavors. Now I want ...

Salt Water Saturday

It was the day after the 4th of July. I was the only one at my parent's island home who had to go to work. Everyone else played on the boat all day - here are the results!  My husband, father and brother in law went deep sea fishing, about 30 miles south of Dauphin Island, AL. These are trips I normally do not miss, so I was sad about that. However, we are planning to have a fish fry tonight so at least I'll be able to enjoy the fruits of their labor!                        Hubby with two nice Red Snapper he caught             My Father with a Cobia and Red Snapper he caught                Brother in Law with my nephews and their dog Last but not least, here is my favorite picture of the day. The husband insisted they wait to clean the fish until I came in from work, so I could "see them". HA! So we were on the dock taking pictures, an...

And wouldn't you know it? As I write this post, it is pouring outside! We were planning to go boating today, and possibly do a little fishing as well, but so far it's not looking too good!  Source: Uploaded by user via Lori on Pinterest Source: jacklail.com via Lori on Pinterest Here's hoping the sun will peek out - if only just for a few hours! In the meantime, enjoy some images of our fabulous Alabama beaches. Hopefully I'll have "real" photos of my own to share again soon!  Source: google.com via Lori on Pinterest Enjoy your Saturday!

Salt Water Saturday

Welcome to the latest edition of Salt Water Saturday! Last Saturday, I was fortunate enough to enjoy a wonderful day in the boat with my sister and parents. My DH was out of town for work, and my sister's DH took their boys fishing so she could relax for a while. Wasn't that sweet of him? We started out in the boat and went down to the west end of Dauphin Island. You can only get there via boat, as the island was broken apart by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. It's an amazing place where you can relax and not worry about traffic, tourists feeding seagulls (one of my biggest pet peeves), screaming kids, and whether you're looking thin enough to brave it at the beach in front of tons of people.  There are lots of shells on this particular stretch of beach. Many of them are perfectly shaped, but of course some are broken. We like to pick up shells to bring home and use in crafting projects. My favorite thing to do with the shells is fill a clear vase with one...
