Living Proof Straight Spray: Helping Me Break The Flat Iron Habit

Image
Going back to work has created several "problems" for me. You know - lack of sleep, lack of time for housecleaning, running out of Diet Coke, etc. However, one of the biggest hassles of working is having to fix my hair every.single.day.   You see, when I was working from home and only going into the office one day a week, I could go days without touching my hair with a flat iron because quite often, only the husband would see me. I could hide my bad hair days behind the computer. Not so much anymore, my friends. As a result, I've been torturing my hair with the flat iron and hair dryer on an almost daily basis.  The last time I went to see my hair guru Phillip, he informed me that my hair was literally breaking off around my face. I was horrified. Horrified and devastated. I've never had problems with breakage - my hair has always been thick, lush and healthy.   I wanted to cry, but instead I started to look for a new styling product as I knew I had no choice...

Hair Opinions, Please...

Image
Hello Shopaholics!  Today I would love your opinion about my hair! As previously discussed, my hair is naturally wavy and I have to work hair to make it straight or make it curly. The only good news is that I have plenty of hair - Phillip (my stylist) says I have the hair of five adults. :-)  Straight hair - taken earlier this week - at lunch with BFF Ashleigh (in the middle) and friend Gina (on the left) Wavy - this is more of my hair's "natural state" - I have to work with lots of gels, etc so that it doesn't get too frizzy...(picture taken with all my favorite men - DH, Dad and the nephews) I call this opinion "Theresa hair" - you know, like Theresa on RHONJ. Phillip did this for me earlier in the summer and I got so many compliments. Photo taken at dinner with my childhood friend, Angel and sister Amy (center and right, respectively) What's the verdict? Which style do you like best? Can't wait to hear what you think! I've been wear...

Taking The Moroccanoil Plunge!

Image
Happy Tuesday! Shopaholic Confession: I finally broke down and bought some Moroccanoil. I have been hearing folks rave about this stuff for a few years - and decided now is the time to take the plunge! With summer upon us, my hair is experiencing a lot of abuse. Isn't it bad enough that we color, blow dry, flat iron, use a curling iron, etc every few days? Then summer arrives and we sunbathe, swim in a pool and the Gulf of Mexico, exercise outside in 90-100 degree heat, wear a ton of ponytails and headbands. Not to mention washing the hair more than normal because it's so darn hot! Enter what I am hoping will be a miracle product - the Moroccanoil Light Oil Treatment. Instructions say to use a small amount on damp hair, then style as usual. For me this means use a significant amount on damp hair, as my hair is extremely thick. Watch what happens - I'll end up loving this product and wanting to purchase everything else in the hair care line. Of cours...

It Takes A Village...

Happy Thursday! Gotcha! What did you think I wanted to talk about today??? :-) Have I ever told you guys that my hair is naturally wavy? Not just a little wave, but a lot of wave. Soooo much wave that when I was in high school, I got a perm (don't laugh - everyone did back then) and it lasted for five years. Yes, you're reading that right - 5 YEARS. If you saw photos of my wavy/curly hair and compared them to the stick straight style I current sport, you are left wondering how in the world did she get her hair straight? Wonder no more because I'm going to tell you all about it - and trust me on this - if your hair is also wavy and you crave straight, smooth locks - here's how to get them! After shampoo/conditioner, I always apply a leave in conditioner/detangler/color sealant. The brands I use vary - depends on how my hair is behaving and what time of year it is - sometimes I need more moisture than others. Right now I am using Back to Basics , Marine Color Seal...

The Best Hair Straightening Product Ever!

Image
TGIF, my friends! It's a gorgeous day here on the Alabama Gulf Coast, with a forecast high of 73 tomorrow. Do you know what that means? Time to start working on the tan and get a king sized dose of Vitamin D. Remember, today is the very last day of winter! I'm ready to kiss it "bye bye" and get on with warmer weather. While I love the warm weather and loathe the cold, hot weather brings a new problem to my house. Frizzy and out of control hair! You probably don't know this yet, but my hair is naturally wavy. Not curly, just wavy. And enough natural wave to be a constant pain in the bootie. Lucky me, I'm one of those people who have to work to make my hair curly, or work to make it straight.  I know, you probably find it hard to believe, because in most of the pictures you see here, my hair is stick straight! This, my friends, is the miracle of product. :-) Meet "Heat-Protective Silk Straightening Cream" by Kiehl's, another one of My Favorite ...

If God Didn't Give It To You, This Man CAN!

Image
Happy Wednesday night, Fashionistas! I had such high hopes when the day started that I would declutter the house.....it didn't happen BUT the good news is that I am now "whole" again. Yep, I went to see the hair genius this afternoon! When I moved back to Alabama, I was totally flipping out over my HAIR. See, I'm a LEO and our hair is mucho importante. When it looks bad, all bets are off. We don't even like to leave the house. Anyway, for the first few months after the move, I drove all the way to Rosemary Beach, FL to see my girl there. After doing that a few times, even I knew that driving 3 hours to get your hair done was just a "tick" outrageous, so I set out to find a local person. Obviously the big man upstairs knew it couldn't be just anyone, so through one part recommendation and the other part luck, I found Phillip Drummond. He is WALKING hair GENIUS. Seriously. My hair is thick, long, and naturally wavy. It's a trifecta of hair ...

A Few of My Favorite Things, & AVEDA GIVEAWAY!

Image
Hello Fashionistas! I hope you're all having a wonderful Monday and staying warm. We had a record low last night, 16-19 degrees depending on where the temp was taken. Brrrrr..... Every now and then, I will share "My Favorite Things" on the blog. The topics will vary - fashion, skin care, cosmetics, hair care, etc. Today I want to tell you about a hair care product and brand that if you haven't tried, YOU NEED TO! When I lived up north (that means North Carolina to me!), I started to have my hair colored, cut and styled at one of the local AVEDA salons. When I initially went, I was just back from a very long business trip and I'd been in the process of moving from AL to NC. My hair was in AWFUL shape, so bad that the stylist refused to color it without "color correction". I was devastated - after all - I am a LEO - and our hair is our PRIDE and JOY. My stylist at the time, Mifa, cut about a foot off my hair (per my request), then agreed to color. Sh...
