Lilly Girl Goes Snapper Fishing!
TGIF, Shopaholics! Before I forget, THANK YOU so much to everyone who mailed a card to Nanny for her 85th birthday. She received a nice pile of them last Saturday, and called me to tell me all about it. I was in the stadium for the Alabama-Florida game, which was about to start...couldn't hear a word she was saying, but got the scoop the next day! Thanks again, you guys helped make Nanny's 85th birthday very special and I really appreciate it!
The past two weeks have continued to be insane....DH's cushy BP gig is up, and he's taking a well deserved sabbatical before moving on to the next project. I know...you're thinking "how nice to have him at home", right? Well yes....but as you can imagine, my schedule is all out of whack and I'm not getting much done as a result!
Last Friday, we were lucky enough to go red snapper fishing. Normally at this time of year, snapper season is over and has been for quite some time. However, because the oil spill negated all but ONE day of this summer's season, a decision was made to have a Fall Red Snapper season here on the coast. Unheard of - let me tell you!
I thought you would enjoy the photos - this is how a Lilly Girl Goes Snapper Fishing, on October 1 in the Gulf of Mexico. :-)
The first photo - at the beginning of this post - was taken right as the sun was coming up. We were about five miles south of Dauphin Island, AL. I actually made the captain (my Father!) stop the boat, so I could get out the camera and take that shot. There is nothing in this world like watching the sun rise over the water. As soon as it hits the horizon, it rises quickly. Notice the birds flying in the background. I hope everyone seeing this photo witnesses a sunrise like this at least once!
Me and DH as the fish started to roll in - note - each licensed fisherman/fisherwoman can only keep two red snappers. We had the limit very quickly! See how beautiful the water is in the background?
Catch of the Day! I thought this shot was cool - it shows how beautiful the fish really are. Look at the eyes. DH feels guilty about keeping them - even though we're going to have a fish fry. *it's not like we are wasting them, but we never keep a fish we don't eat unless fishing a tournament*
We're back at the dock now....can you believe I stuck my hands in the fish for this photo? Yeah, me neither! :-)
DH's fish are ALWAYS bigger than mine....I have to work on this....
Last but not least, a special "thanks" to our Captain (AKA Dad) for a perfect day!
Have a Fantastic Friday!
How fun! You are right; the fish are gorgeous! Have fun this weekend!
