Salt Water Saturday: Alabama vs. Penn State, One of My Favorite Rivalries

Image
Happy Saturday, Shopaholics!  Wow - it's college football season! These are always exciting times in my neighborhood. Many of you already know, I am a season ticket holder (Tide Pride) and attend every Alabama home game in Tuscaloosa during football season.  Over the years, I have been fortunate to attend several Alabama vs. Penn State games in person. Of course Penn State is in the Big 10, not the SEC like Alabama, so they don't play very often. Matter of fact, they have only met 14 times over the history of the rivalry. A little background on this storied rivalry - directly from happyvalley.com: Background The Nittany Lions and the Crimson Tide have played against each other a total of 14 times. They first competed against each other 1959 in Liberty Bowl where Penn State won 7-0. Before they played last season they haven’t played since Oct. 27, 1990. Penn State won once again, 9-0. Overall Alabama has won 14 games and Penn State has won five. The Nittany Lions...

Almost Time For Football - Really???

Image
Happy Monday! Today I'm off on a road trip to parts north. I am very excited and am planning to meet a friend for lunch in Atlanta on the way. In my opinion, one of the best things about having lived in several different cities is having friends all over the place.  On Friday, it finally hit me - it's almost time for football season. WOW. Where has the summer gone? Preseason NFL football games were on television this weekend. Our first Alabama game is on September 3 in Tuscaloosa. Labor Day weekend is looking pretty crazy around here, with the travel to T-town on Saturday and the Kid Rock concert on Monday.  I love football season and enjoy both the college and professional level games. Heck, I even like attending a high school football game. As a teenager, there wasn't much more exciting than the anticipation of a game against a rival school on Friday night. (Well, maybe the parties afterwards, haha).  Are you also looking forward to football season? What are ...

Super Bowl Sunday!

Image
Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Tonight, most of us will be captive to the Super Bowl. The Green Bay Packers vs. The Pittsburgh Steelers. The game is being played in my Dallas Cowboys' new stadium. Are you watching the game? Who are you pulling for? Here in our household, it would be unthinkable to pull for the Steelers. Have I mentioned before, we are Cowboys fans? :-) Obviously our team had a horrible year and isn't in the "big game". So we are pulling for the Green Bay Packers tonight! If you're not into the game, do you enjoy watching the commercials? Sometimes they are much more entertaining than the actual game! There have been so many cool commercials over the past several years. One of my favorites was the monkeys on the CareerBuilder.com commercial - does anyone else remember this one? Hilarious... How about food? Do you make a big spread? Attend a party where they go "all out"? This year we are staying home, just me and the DH. I do have a l...

BCS National Championship - Auburn Tigers vs. Oregon Ducks

Image
Happy Monday! Greetings from a cold and wet Gulf coast beach town! :-) Tonight is the BCS National Championship game, where the Auburn Tigers will meet the Oregon Ducks. For those who don't follow sports - we're talking about college football. The DH and I love college football. Some of you might remember that I'm a season ticket holder for UA football (The University Of Alabama) and attend every home game in Tuscaloosa, AL. I also love to attend "away" games and have watched my beloved team play in other locales such as Columbia, SC; Pasadena, CA; New Orleans, LA; Jacksonville, FL; Birmingham, AL; Jackson, MS; and Knoxville, TN. Alabama and Auburn are "in-state rivals", but that really makes it sound pretty calm and slightly civilized. HAHA. Most people around here either love Alabama or they love Auburn - and they pull for whichever team the other one is playing on any given Saturday. Last year, Alabama beat the Texas Longhorns in the BCS Champ...

On My Way...To See The Tide Play!

Image
Happy Saturday, and welcome to the start of college football season! :-) I'm on my way to see the Tide play. If I've never mentioned it here, we have season tickets to all Bama home games. And we manage to make the trek to Tuscaloosa, Alabama for most of them between September and late November. Today we play San Jose State, which shouldn't be a very difficult game. Next week is projected to be a different story. Penn State is coming to town. I'll need a few drinks and maybe a nerve pill to get through that one. :-) Who is your favorite college football team? I will confess that I've been an Alabama fan for as long as I've been alive. Even though I didn't graduate from UA...I bleed Crimson! Hope you have a great day! And Roll Tide!

FAMILY TRADITION for G.R.I.T.S.

Happy Saturday to all my preppy fashionista friends! As you know from Friday, I'm trying to get over a migraine and actually enjoy the weekend. There is a very special event happening in my hometown today. The annual "Senior Bowl" is in Mobile, AL. Now most of you are thinking "what??" so I'll tell you all about it. Everyone knows "the South" is well known for their love of college football. Well actually, more like their OBSESSION with college football, and especially SEC football.  All of us GRITS are proud to be a part of those traditions. GRITS = Girls Raised In The South. :-) If you're a GRITS, at the time of your birth, your parents have a favorite team and begin the indoctrination process VERY early. I'm sure there is a photo of this Shopaholic in her Univ. of Alabama cheerleader outfit somewhere around here..... After the college football season ends (which this year my team won the national championship, Roll Tide Baby!) ther...
