Stay Safe, East Coast Friends

On this the last Monday in October, everyone is watching Hurricane Sandy and the impact to the Eastern seaboard. Here's hoping all my friends are safe and sound, snuggled at home in their PJ's and watching updates on television.

When we face hurricanes here on the Gulf Coast, it always helps me to try to think like Jimmy Buffett. "There's no reasoning with hurricane season" is one of my favorite quotes. The above picture is good for a chuckle. :-)

Stay safe out there!

p.s. Thank goodness, hurricane season is over very soon!

18 Years And Counting!

My how time flies when you are having fun! Today, the DH and I celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary. Even I can't believe it's been that long - where does the time go? We started dating in 1992 (20 years ago!) and were married on this day in 1994. I can't imagine my life with anyone else.

There are no big celebration plans today. We both have to work (ugh) all week. However, I am working on a trip to the DC area in December...fingers crossed!

Hope you have a wonderful Monday!

What I Learned On Staycation

You might have noticed, I've been absent for two weeks. Sorry I haven't updated, life has been so busy that I'm having a difficult time keeping up with everything.

Last week, I took some much needed time off work. Did I go somewhere exotic and fun? Absolutely not, I wish! With the DH's unpredictable work schedule, it's almost impossible to plan a "real trip" instead, I decided to take a "staycation".

After being home for four days, I learned a few things. These are not breaking news or news flashes, but rather I was reminded of stuff I already know!

1. My body needs at least 7 hours of sleep per night. Since going back to work, I've been averaging around 5 or 6 hours per night (at the most). While off work, I got at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night, and felt great! I have now made a commitment to get more sleep.

2. It's really important to see your girlfriends. While on staycation, I had lunch with several girlfriends I hadn't seen in forever. Additionally, at my Rodan + Fields business launch party, I spent time with some friends I hadn't seen in longer than I care to admit. While it's important to spend time with your husband/boyfriend/life partner - it's just as important to maintain your friendships and spend time with your friends.

3. I learned that I have raging carpal tunnel in my right hand (left hand is ok). It will require surgery to fix my right hand, and I will have to take 4 weeks off work. I'm now sleeping in a splint and trying to figure out how in the world I will perform everyday tasks with my left hand for 4 weeks, because I am right handed. Just to see how it would feel, yesterday I brushed my teeth and hair with my left hand. I couldn't imagine putting on makeup, showering, loading the dishwasher, etc with my left hand...but I'm going to have to figure it out soon!

4. Mental health days are very important. If your work schedule makes it tough to take multiple days (or a week) off in a row, try to schedule one or two days here and there. Call them "mental health days". Sometimes that short break is all you need.

5. Some of my best friends in the world live in Birmingham. They were down here at the beach last week, and helped me clean my house. Now this doesn't sound like much, but trust me when I tell you, these girls saved my life. The house was (and several rooms still are!) a disaster, and they really forced me to clean up and clean out. I still have two bedrooms that need to be tackled, but thanks to Traci and Lindsey's help, I can finally get ahead. I love those girls.

6. Turns out, you can put too much on a closet rail. Ask me how I know? Because in one of my bedroom closets, the rail actually came out of the wall. I mean, separated from the sheetrock wall. And now the contents of that closet are on the floor. When will I deal with this? I go back to work today, and half my work clothes are in that closet. It should be an interesting week. Clearly that's a sign from above - I need to get rid of more items in the closet. Or stop buying.

Have you taken a staycation lately? If not, I highly recommend. I'm already planning my next one! Have a great Monday!

Final Damages: Lilly Pulitzer Endless Summer Sale

Well, it took a little over a month - but now I can finally confess my damages from the Lilly Pulitzer Endless Summer Sale.

Most of us remember the details very well - the website crashed at the beginning of the sale, order status was uncertain, some customers received GWP's and others didn't, many people had cancelled was a mess. I felt really bad for the people who work at Lilly Pulitzer - honestly, we all know they want to take care of their customer. But the sale spiraled out of control, and it was really tough on the peeps at The Pink Palace.

When it was all said and done, I ordered twenty items for a total of $843. Full retail price on those items was $3432, so I saved 75% off retail. Of the original twenty items ordered, I only received sixteen of them because one of my orders was cancelled. (Those four items were sold out). Naturally, I was disappointed but I have to say - the Customer Service crew at Lilly Pulitzer made it right for me. I couldn't be more pleased with their team of Customer Service folks and would like to tell everyone at The Pink Palace "Thank you"!

In the end, I have to say that I couldn't be more pleased with the sale. At an average of 70-80% off with Free shipping, I am more than willing to wait for my orders to be processed and to ship. Where else could you get that? Maybe at the semi-annual warehouse sale, but if you're like me and have to fly up to Philadelphia, get a hotel room and spend a ton of $$$ dining and drinking in addition to your shopping - this is a much better option. I'm very happy!

Like everyone else who had a cancelled order, I received an email with a promotion code for $100 off my next online purchase. Now I am debating - wait for the Resort collection later this month, or pick up another piece of the Fall collection? Decisions, decisions...

Thank you, Lilly Pulitzer, for offering such a magnificent sale. You already know it of course, but I'd like to publicly state that I'm a "lifer" - a customer for life! :-)

What were your final damages from the Lilly Pulitzer Endless Summer Sale?
