White After Labor Day?

Happy Wednesday! Did you guys think I dropped off the face of the earth or what? There was non stop activity here over the weekend, starting with the Alabama game on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa. Then all our family came down and spent the weekend with us here at the beach. We had a blast, but I have to say, I'm exhausted! :-)

This time of year makes me a little sad. It's the end of summer - maybe not according to the calendar just yet, but certainly "they" say it's the end of summer. Unquestionably, the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting slightly cooler. :-(

Speaking of, how do you feel about wearing white after Labor Day? Do you? If so, white jeans? Capris? Skirts? Shoes? I have mixed feelings on the topic, as it's sometimes difficult to manage living in a place that stays so hot for so long.

Of course I realize I'd look ridiculous in a white sundress in early October (and for the record, I have NEVER done that!)....but honestly, if Lilly and other designers produce white jeans/pants all year....what is the problem?

I can't wait to hear your thoughts on this subject! Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  1. I live just outside of Boston so by next month it will be sweater weather. I'm pretty loyal to "no white after labor day". Although I don't wear much white, I do have a pair of pants that won't be seen until next spring. Also a couple of pairs of white sandals. For the next couple of weeks I'll still wear my darker sandals but I'll slowly transition out of them as well. Any linen things I have will be put away as well. However, if I lived in a warmer climate I would probably view the whole thing differently.

I lived in Alabama for 3 years when I was a child so I'm somewhat familiar with your climate. Not sure i could live there now, I don't do heat very well. We had an oppressive summer up here this year, I became very cranky!

  3. Funny... y'all should be in Florida... ALL the fashion rules fly out the window here!! I think it is okay to wear white jeans, pants, or skirts but never (*gasp*) a sundress or white shoes :)

  4. I have a winter white Bulga hobo I just love. I pull it out in the winter once in a blue moon and get a ton of compliments, yet I feel so wrong.....

    I try to be a rule breaker but I get a big.fat. FAIL! ;)

  5. My mom's pretty tradtional in the sense that she checks to make sure I've returned all my white clothes to my closet at home on Labor Day. I've never really looked good in white pants/jeans or jean skirt so I never owned them, and I gave up white sandals (White Jack Rogers actually) altogether because there was just no time to wear them, and I was always wearing a different color! I do have one off-white Lilly skirt w/ embroidery though that she does let me continue to wear for Fall.

I can see it being different though if you lived in a Southern climate where you never really had to deal with snow!

  6. I packed up all my summer favorites on Monday...it feels like a funeral...always a sad day...it is still hotter than the hinges here in South Georgia, but sadly I am fearful that my female ancestors would haunt me in my sleep if I didn't carry on tradition....would love to keep wearing my summer favorites....just can't bring myself to....

  7. I'm a bit obsessed with the Lilly Aida Corduroy in white. I've never worn white pants in winter, but I'm thinking with some fun plaid Wellies these pants will be great! I want them for the Legacy Chase in Md. this month.

  8. Being in the South, I wear white all year. Now, mind you, not a sundress or sandlas. But I think white paired with fall colors is striking! Now, don't tell my mom, 'cuz she'd kill me! ;)

  9. I dont think I have a voice on this topic.. because I look terrible in white..

but I do love white t'shirts and I wear said plain white t'shirts all year round. With jeans and scarves.. and cute boots.

Maybe I'm not all that fashionable ;)

  10. Living in Southern California, we can still get away with white. But the Midwest in me says, pack it away! I'm ready for sweaters and football.

  11. It's so hard for me to let go of summer! But,white is the first to go! I have had "no white after labor day" ingrained in my head since I was a little girl. No matter what they say in fashion magazines, I just can't do it.

  12. I totally think if it going to stay super hot where you live white is ok. I wear white when I'm in Naples-even if it is February. So go for it. For me, it is cold starting soon but I'm a big fan of winter white!

  13. I live in South FLorida and was told white pants are fine...just not white shoes, white dresses. Of course, it won't be less than 90 until January!

  14. I just can't wear white after Labor Day. Several people told me that rule no longer applies, but I cannot do it. Also no seersucker or linen for me, hubby or the kiddos. I think the climate has really changed since the rules were written so long ago, but I really do like having traditions.

  15. I don't pay much attention to rules like that...especially since I live in Florida and it's hot until November. HA!

  16. No white sandals... Except the white stiching on the Jack Rogers I will wear for the remainepder of the intense warm weather we have in SC!

  17. I'm in Michigan & we turned the heat on today. Summer is over. :(

  18. Here in San Antonio, the heat makes us forget that it's really fall! I do my best to put the white away, but I have been known to occasionally pull out the white pants in the winter. (I wore them one year with a sparkly top and silver high heeled sandals to host a holiday party. I know some would say this is a "no-no", but I thought it looked great and I can't promise I won't do it again!

  19. I live in New York with it's extreme seasons. I think one should dress based on the climate where they live and forget all the so called "rules".
