The Quest for Perfect Lashes.....

Happy Tuesday, everyone! Welcome to Shopaholic's version of "My Favorite Things" and today we're talking about the most elusive....perfect lashes!

I don't know about you, but I'm constantly searching for the next big thing and best products on the market. Sometimes this gets me into a LOT of trouble when Sephora boxes arrive at the doorstep, but that's a different topic. :-)

On my agenda - lush, long, thick, well seperated lashes. I realize this is quite a tall order, but I refuse to give up the good fight. Trust me when I tell you, I've tried it ALL. Mascaras by YSL, Dior (don't understand the fever over DiorShow, did nothing for me!), Clinique, Lancome, Cover Girl, Maybelline, Benefit, Givenchy. You get the picture! Since I've tried so many and spent so much $$, I thought I'd save you the trouble and share my personal favorites!

First order of business - you need a great eyelash curler. Some people don't curl their lashes and I cannot understand WHY??  Everyone needs to, it opens the eyes up sooo much and preps the lashes for products. This is my "Cadillac of Curlers" - the basic eyelash curler by shu uemura. It's available everywhere (I purchased from Sephora) and at $19, it's a steal. Grabs all the lashes at one time too!

After curling, I apply eyeliner (will blog about liners another time!). Then I use a lash primer to "prep" the eyelashes for mascara. My favorite is "Lash Primer Plus" from Estee Lauder. I find that using a primer helps my mascara stay on much better, and it also seems to provide more volume and fullness. At only $18.50, another fantastic bargain!

Next it's time for real mascara! Finally, huh?!?!? Believe it or not, I also use Estee Lauder mascara. I've tried several of theirs, but the "MagnaScopic Maximum Volume Mascara" provides the best results for me! This product really gives me VOLUME - which I need! The price is very accessible at only $21.00. Special NOTE - I wear contact lenses, and as a result, blink constantly! This mascara, while NOT marketed as "water-proof", does not "dot" under my eyes. That makes it a REAL winner in my book.

For those occasions when I want even more volume or drama, I will top this mascara with Benefit's "BADGal Mascara" in Blue or Plum. The colors are totally wearable - and the blue seems to bring out the white in my eyes. Believe me, because by reducing the redness in my eyes, I look less tired! Both colors are priced at only $19.00.

Now you know all my lash loves, tell me about yours! What works for you? What isn't worth trying? I can't wait to hear all about your experiences....again I'm always looking for the next favorite thing! :-)

p.s. I should state these are my OPINIONS, based on my personal experiences. Sadly I'm not paid by anyone to talk about this fun stuff!

  1. I love Estee Lauder- they are by far my favorite brand! I usually use either Estee's More Than Mascara, or Paula Dorf's Cake Mascara- sometimes both. When I go out at night I put on a coat of the gold sparkly Estee Turbo Lash they came out with around Christmas time. It adds a fun touch, although I did not put the battery in the Turbo Lash because I do not want a vibrating mascara wand near my eye- I am afraid I would poke my eye out!

and i use, and love, maybelline define-a-lash...amazing, makes my lashes super long and lasts all day :)

  6. Thanks for the tip on the last curler. As soon as I can find my car under all this snow I'm running out to Sephora to get one. I switch mascaras a lot and don't really have a favorite. Right now I'm finishing tubes of Diorshow Iconic and Clinique Naturally Glossy, which is a great daytime mascara. I've also been using Latisse since the fall and have really noticed a difference in the length of my lashes.

  7. I am constantly on the search for the next best eyelash product! Right now I'm using Diorshow blackout...which I was loving when I first got it but it seems like this tube got clumpy pretty early! I thoroughly confused by people that don't curl their eyelashes!! I don't care how much the mascara says it "curls" your lashes, nothing comes close to a good eyelash curler! BTW - I left you something on my blog! :)
