A Shopaholic Gets Crafty
In a move surprising to my family and close friends, I have embraced my "crafty" side. Note that I never even knew I had a crafty side...I've always been one of those people who couldn't design a room, couldn't arrange a vase of flowers, etc. Now if you asked me how to help you fund those same purchases, that I could do. I can help you write the business plan to open your design business, but I can't design my own bedroom. Go figure.
A few days ago, I decided I was going to try for a Coastal Christmas decorating theme. Of course this is a wee bit of a problem, as I don't have any coastal holiday decor. So with limited resources here at the beach (read: no Hobby Lobby, Michael's, etc locally - just Target and Wal-Mart), I had to get creative. I went to the local souvenir store and bought a bunch of starfish and sand dollars - and have started decorating them.
Glitter, Swarovski crystals, a hot glue gun - they are all my new BFF's for this project. I wanted to share some of my creations with you. Please note - they are not completed and I'm not ready to decorate just yet - but I'm working on it. Most of these will become tree ornaments - and a few might be used in a centerpiece. I'd love to hear what you think!
Are you working on any crafty projects this holiday season?
p.s. I blame most of this on Pinterest...looking at what others have created is quite inspiring!

I love them... You did a great job. I had a coffee can of beautiful sand dollars my aunt gave me in 1999 -- like 50 perfect ones, and I made ornaments out of them and put the date on the bottom front (1999). I got in the attic tonight to get the ornaments and tree and decided to use a tree and ornaments we had not used in forever and I found some of these sand dollars -- I gave most of them for gifts that year. I like that bling. Where did you find nice stones around here?
ReplyDeleteI think they look fabulous! Another trick you could try is to spray paint shells silver, or gold for some more sparkle.
ReplyDeleteI love this! So simple and so beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Pinterest!! I have gotten hooked on using deco mesh to decorate EVERYTHING even my pot rack in the kitchen and I also created a canvas to hang about our master bed.
