Salt Water Saturday: Deep Sea Fishing

Happy Saturday, Shopaholics! Hope your week has been better than mine! Sorry about being absent for the past week - my laptop died and I have been working from a dinosaur desktop computer. It's been a form of torture.

I wanted to blog and show you guys these pictures last week for my Salt Water Saturday post - but I wasn't sure I'd be able to recover the photos. Thankfully --- this series of photos were intact.

There is absolutely nothing like leaving the dock before daylight, and already being on a fishing spot when the sun rises over the Gulf of Mexico...

We had a very successful day of red snapper fishing. The new limits in our area are two fish per person, per day. I was fishing with the DH and my Father - and we had our six fish by 9am.

Dad caught a nice King Mackerel - however, it was catch and release on that baby because we don't eat them. Our rule: if you don't eat the fish, or we're not fishing in a tournament, we let them live. Then they can grow and be caught another day. :-)

In case you're wondering, we were fishing off a gas rig in the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 35 miles off shore. Although much smaller, the rig is very similar to the one that exploded, sunk and caused the BP oil spill. Fishing out here can be a little dangerous - there are crew boats coming and going, helicopters coming and going, and other boats fishing everywhere. I took this shot from my view at the steering wheel to illustrate! It can be really crazy out there - you must have your head screwed on straight and pay attention at all times!

Pink fishing lure used to catch that King Mackerel...

Back at the dock when our fishing trip was over, here are the fruits of our labor. We cleaned all the snapper, and had enough for a huge fish fry on Father's Day!

And for the record, I caught the largest red snapper of the day. Score!

Have a Super Saturday! What are you up to this weekend? Today I am hanging at home, not feeling very well and getting ready for company tomorrow. Make it a great one!

p.s. Lilly Pulitzer Home is on Rue La La tomorrow (yes, on a Sunday!). If you're not a member, be sure to sign up HERE. Then you'll be ready for the sale when it begins! The preview shows items from Lifeguard Press - market totes, thermal and coffee mugs, stationery, etc. I'm hoping for some wonderful bargains! :-)
