Salt Water Saturday

Welcome to the latest edition of Salt Water Saturday! Last Saturday, I was fortunate enough to enjoy a wonderful day in the boat with my sister and parents. My DH was out of town for work, and my sister's DH took their boys fishing so she could relax for a while. Wasn't that sweet of him?

We started out in the boat and went down to the west end of Dauphin Island. You can only get there via boat, as the island was broken apart by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. It's an amazing place where you can relax and not worry about traffic, tourists feeding seagulls (one of my biggest pet peeves), screaming kids, and whether you're looking thin enough to brave it at the beach in front of tons of people.

There are lots of shells on this particular stretch of beach. Many of them are perfectly shaped, but of course some are broken. We like to pick up shells to bring home and use in crafting projects. My favorite thing to do with the shells is fill a clear vase with ones in different shapes and colors. Here are some pictures of our "shell line"...this is our Sanibel!

However, shells weren't the only treasure we found at the beach last Saturday. We also came home with two new pieces of driftwood to use at my parent's island home. I thought this piece was particularly amazing - my Father was quick to point out that the shape of the wood resembled a fish. Do you see it? The "eye" on one end, the "fin" at the top? We joked that it could be sold on Ebay like the "Jesus toast" several years ago. What do you think?
My Mother spied another piece of driftwood on the beach. It was so big and heavy, my Father had to strap it across the back of the boat to be transported home! I can't wait to see what my Mother does with this wood, we might be looking to Pinterest for inspiration.
After we arrived home, we enjoyed this gorgeous sunset from the deck. I love watching the sun set. There is this moment where it looks like the sun is literally "falling" into the water and you get an amazing reflection of the sun on the water. The moment is fleeting and it's over before you know it. Every time I witness one of those sunsets, I feel so incredibly lucky and extremely blessed.

As always, life is good on the Gulf Coast!
