Game Day Tops: Va Va by Joy Han at Mermaids in Sandestin

Happy Monday and Happy Halloween! I'm sure most everyone is focused on Halloween today, but I'm not big on the holiday and decided to blog about something else. You guys know me, I tend to do things a little differently around here! :-)

While in Destin over the weekend, my sister and I visited a fun boutique at The Village of Baytowne Wharf in Sandestin. This is the same shopping center where the Lilly Pulitzer Via shop (Barefoot Princess) is located, and any visit to the area is not complete without stopping in Mermaids to see what's new. When I lived in Destin, I would visit this store often and was never disappointed. The store prides themselves on carrying the fun and funky vibe of beach attire along with the latest trends from both the east and west coasts. Va Va by Joy Han, Judith March and Tracy Negoshian were just a few of the brands we found in store Saturday.

Speaking of Va Va by Joy Han, I was so excited to pick up this super cute "game day top" at Mermaids. (also known as the "sports fan top")...

My picture just doesn't do justice to the top - it so darling in person! It has short puff sleeves with an elastic and was designed to be worn off the shoulders. However, I tried it with a white tank underneath and worn ON the shoulders - which is how I plan to wear the top. It's a mesh (think sports jersey type material) and therefore would be see through without a tank or shirt underneath. This is perfect for warm weather games paired with shorts or jeans, and could be worn in cooler weather with a sleek long sleeve top under the jersey and jeans. I love this for a casual Alabama game day look.

While I bought the last red and white top in the store (I know - I'm sorry!), Mermaids had several left in purple and orange, and both colors are accented with white trim. LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, Clemson girls - you would all love this top! See my Mermaid friends, Tanya & Tara - they are "modeling" the purple and orange versions for you below! Aren't they gorgeous and can't you tell they are sisters? :-)
If you're interested in having your own game day top from Joy Han, Mermaids would love to help! Please contact them at 850-424-6301. You can speak Tanya, Tara or anyone in the store. Mermaids will ship to any United States address and you'll feel good knowing you're supporting a small, local business. Always a plus in my book! :-)

Have a safe and Happy Halloween! Boo!

p.s. I found this picture online to show how one website styled the game day top...it's not a look I'm going for, but it's cute! Very Holly Madison, don't you think?

Missing These Days...

Tonight, I'm sending everyone a little sunshine and warm weather thoughts. I know many of you had snow the past few days (In October? Seriously???) and it's been pretty cool and windy here too!

As I wear socks in the house tonight, I'm missing the days of flip flops. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Greetings From Destin

Happy Saturday! We are having a great time in Destin, FL...so happy the DH is finally home!

We are going off shopping and later today, will enjoy seeing the nephews celebrate Halloween. This evening we are having dinner out to celebrate our anniversary (a week late but who is counting?).

Hope you are having a fantastic weekend. If you're enjoying Halloween festivities with friends and family, be careful out there!

Fearless Fitness Friday: Back On The Wagon, after Destin...

TGIF! Today the DH returns after being gone for 19 days! I'm so excited to spend a long weekend with my sweetie. We are planning a little trip over to Destin for a few days.

This week, I decided it was time to get crackin' again. I have been exercising all week and am starting to feel a little better. There were two (plus!) weeks that I didn't do anything. No exercise. Ate bad stuff. Drank bad stuff. Felt bad. Was sick with a sinus infection. Had a ton of excuses.

Party time over, I'm back on the wagon now. Well, maybe not 100% back on the wagon...as I'm pretty sure we'll have a few meals that certainly don't qualify as "healthy" while in Destin. Old Florida Fish House, The Donut Hole, Pompano Joe's, Dewey Destin, Bud & Alley's, The Back Porch...they're all calling our name!

Does it count that I plan to do a 5K on Saturday? Maybe that will help make up for the sins that will surely be committed...

Have a Fantastic Friday! What are your plans for the weekend?

p.s. You will notice I didn't mention the shopping. With two Lilly Pulitzer Via shops, Off 5th Avenue, Ulta, Sephora and others close by - I might have to worry about more than what I eat! :-)

Fall Nail Color: Is It Time For A Change?

Everyone knows I love summer. I love the beach, having a suntan and wearing bright colors. My love of wearing bright color extends to my manis and pedis. It always makes me a little sad the day I look down at my fingers or toes and say "it's time to retire Strawberry Margarita" (or Cajun Shrimp).

Recently, I have invested in a few new polishes for fall and winter. With the addition of these to my current polish wardrobe, I am gradually embracing the darker color palettes. While the temperatures are still 70-80 degrees, it is late October, after all!

The following polishes will be in heavy rotation from now until late February...from Left to Right in above photo:

"Going Incognito" by Essie
"Vodka and Caviar" by OPI
"Steel-Ing The Scene" by Essie
"I'm Not Really A Waitress" by OPI
"Lincoln Park After Dark" by OPI
"OPI Red" by OPI

Now I am considering the addition of a blue polish to the lineup - what do you think? I actually like both of these and haven't been able to decide.

"Yoga-ta Get This Blue" by OPI
"Road House Blues" by OPI

Which color do you like? Are you scared of blue nails? I have to admit - I'm not totally sold on the blue. Then again, I wasn't sold on that green Essie before I purchased it either. And I love it now...Go figure! Is it time for you to change your nail polish wardrobe?

Have a great day!

Wish List Wednesday: Shabby Apple, Red and Black Edition

It's been a long time since I embraced clothing in colors of red, black or any combination of the two. This glaring omission in my wardrobe becomes crystal clear to me on Alabama home game days. Keep in mind - unlike a lot of other ladies my age, I'm well aware that I shouldn't dress like a college student or sorority girl. I do love wearing skirts and easy fitting dresses to Tuscaloosa - and don't believe that because I'm over 30 years old, I should show up in khaki capris and an Alabama tee shirt, sporting Merrell sneakers. (Perish the thought, I do see that on Saturdays). I might be 41, but there's no reason I should look like a old lady.

The folks at Shabby Apple seem to have an answer to my problem! After seeing a giveaway sponsored by Shabby Apple on my friend EAS's blog, I have spent more time than I care to admit perusing their website. (You can enter EAS's giveaway and sign up to follow her blog HERE).

Is it any wonder, these beauties are now on my radar?

New Caledonia Dress, $78 (available HERE)
Black Oak Dress, $92 (available HERE)
Francine Skirt, $47 (available HERE)
New Orleans Dress, $88 (available HERE
CEO Red Sheath Dress, $96 (available HERE)
Are you familiar with Shabby Apple? I'd love to know what you think, as I've never owned anything from this line.

Do you wear a lot of red and black?

Happy Hump Day!

P.S. you can save $10 on any black or orange dress on the Shabby Apple website using the code "TREAT" or 15% off site-wide with the code "IVY". This offer is good through the end of October only! Happy Shopping!

Lilly Pulitzer Resort 2011-2012: First Look & Favorites

Happy Tuesday! The Resort collection by Lilly Pulitzer is always my favorite, hands down! This year is proving to be no exception, as evidenced by all the items that are finding their way on my wish list.

The first delivery of Resort 2011 should begin arriving tomorrow and over the next few days at our favorite websites and Lilly Pulitzer Via and corporate store locations. Get ready, because if you're like me, your wallet is going to be smoking!

The theme of the Resort 2011 collection is "Jungle Glam". The first items I'm featuring are part of the October 25 delivery, enjoy! (Please accept my apologies in advance for the picture quality, my tech support isn't home to install my new printer/scanner combo. The scanner on my dinosaur printer is on the fritz...ugh!)

Elsa Top Pintucks, Black Skip On It, $158. I'm so happy the Elsa tops are back - they are a wardrobe staple for me!
Adalie Ruffle Wrap Dress, Black Greens With Envy, $168. Love a wrap dress and love a ruffle. Perhaps this will help me forget that I don't see a Blayney anywhere in this new collection!
Elexa Dress, Snorkel Blue Greens With Envy, $178 and Elsa Top Pintucks, Same print, $158. Elexa resembles another favorite of mine, the Apple dress. Elsa needs no explanation, I'll take one of her in every print!
Jonah Dress, Shorely Blue Purring Jacquard, $188. My Jonah collection will apparently grow by at least one dress, and I love the addition of buttons on this version! Gorgeous!
The following items are available in the November 10 delivery...

Joy Tunic Dress, Hotty Pink Scorpion Bowl, $148. Yep, you're reading that right. The ever popular Joy Knit Tunic has been transformed into a dress. Great for all your casual days! Another must have around here...

Dylan Tunic, Hotty Pink Scorpion Bowl, $98. The idea of this tunic is great, but I'll have to see it in person. I have a feeling it might be a tad long, and could possibly come off looking maternity-ish. Which is not a look you want if you're not preggers!
Roslyn Skirt, Pink Salmon Glamorous Life, $118. The Roslyn skirt is such a great Lilly Pulitzer basic item, it can be dressed up or down depending on your top, shoes and accessories. Another hit!
Callahan Short, Turquoise Jungle Glam Toile, $64. One can never have too many Callahan shorts. Period. Need as many prints as possible!
From the November 25 delivery...

Estelle Sweater, Turquoise Coral Intarsia, $178. Ladies, get ready to fall in love with a bunch of coral prints this season. Seriously!
Clare Dress Silk Jersey, Bright Navy Hot Hot Hot, $258. Another staple in my Lilly wardrobe, the Clare dress is so flattering and works for my lifestyle. I can't wait to acquire at least one more!
Ciara Tunic, Shorely Blue Hot House Placed, $148. My tunic obsession continues...
Pipster Dress, True Navy Bella, $198. Pipster = Pippa? You think? This style comes in a variety of prints, according to the lookbook. Expect a sellout. Plan accordingly. :-)
If you live near the water, or if you love the water, expect the December 25 delivery to blow you away. It was impossible to narrow down my "favorites" from this delivery. I'll just take one of everything, thank you very much!
Ciara Tunic, Turquoise Coral Siesta, $148 and Shailene Dress, Resort White Dodies Coral Panel Embroidery, $298. They had me at "Coral". Period.
Jia Dress, Bright Navy Coral Siesta, $158. Lilly, Coral, Navy, SOLD!
Taytay Dress, Resort White Hands Off Engineered, $178 and Caye Tankini Top/Surfs Up Bottom, Turquoise Coral Me Crazy, $88 and $68. The dress looks fabulous and thank goodness, Lilly swimwear is back! Hooray!
Next up - Accessories & Footwear. I'm in real trouble in this area, I want it all!
Lots of beautiful Resort Chic Wedges, Ginger Wrap Wedges, and McKims. However, I am most excited about the Resort Chic Wedge, Closed Toe, Gold Metallic, $228 (top row - middle picture). I absolutely hate most closed toe shoes, and dread having to start wearing them every year. Perhaps these will help me conquer those feelings! :-)
Murfee Scarves abound, $118 each.
Glam It Up Clutch in Gold Metallic Coral and Black Frog, $128 each. Necklaces - Sea Me $48, Pink Tomato and Resort White Sea Coral, $48 each, Coral Siesta Necklace, $58. I can see I'm going to have to clean out my costume jewelry to make room for a few new treasures - and that Coral clutch is calling my name!
More baubles, the Long Necklace No Words Needed, Gold Metallic, $48 (top row - middle photo). The disc says "Shaken 'n Stirred". Love! And the Critter Earrings, Resort White Horsin' Around, $38, as well as frog and coral critter earrings (all priced at $38). Too much fun!
Every holiday season, I put up a Lilly themed pink and green tree. I was thrilled to see new Glass Ornaments as part of the Resort collection. $48 each.
Speaking of the holiday season, if you're looking for a matching Lilly dress and men's tie combination - you're in luck! The lookbook shows at least six ties available in this collection. (Sorry, prices not listed).
Have no fear, the Minnies weren't left out! Resort features a ton of beautiful things for your Lilly loving Minnie - but since I don't have any Minnies around here, I didn't focus on that part of the collection for this post!

I leave you with the fabric swatch photos...

What do you think? Are you excited about the new Resort collection? I can't wait to see it all in person, and to start buying!

Which pieces are your favorites?
